Nurse call system
One of the commonly used solutions in the digitalization process of hospitals is nurse call and emergency code systems. In simple terms, these systems provide instant notification to the relevant persons or units when buttons placed in various parts of the hospital are pressed or some numbers are dialed from the phone. Nurse call systems, which are used to increase patient satisfaction and improve the quality of care, facilitate communication between patients and nurses, doctors and caregivers and shorten intervention times. Using nurse call systems also helps nurses prioritize their duties based on emergencies and the types of requests from patients. Thanks to these advantages, nurse call systems have become an integral part of hospital communication systems.
The system basically consists of components such as bedside unit, handset, WC call unit, over-door corridor lamp and call panel. The module that enables these components to communicate with each other is the room control unit. The integration of the room control units and the hospital switchboard is provided by the hospital server. Thanks to all these equipment, when an emergency occurs, that is, when the patient feels bad and presses the button on the handset to call for help, or falls in the bathroom and pulls the emergency call line, these equipments give an alarm visually and audibly and direct the healthcare personnel to the relevant room. They do this by sending an audible and written warning to the warning lamps, the warnings on the nurse call panel or the mobile device used by the relevant healthcare personnel.
The functions of the basic components that make up the nurse call system are as follows:
Call Panel: These are the panels where the nurses can see from which room the signal sent by the patient by pressing the call button comes from.
Bedside Call Unit: These are the units that allow patients to call the nurse in case of emergency.
Bathroom/WC Call Unit: These are the units that are not affected by humidity and humidity, and emergency call information is sent to the nurse when the rope handle is pulled.
Over the Door Corridor Lamp: These are the units with lights on the door of the room where the call is made, that light up in different colors depending on the call status.
Hospital Call Center Server: It is the system control unit where all nurse call panels are connected over the network. It also acts as an emergency code server.
Personnel Smart Card: It ensures that the personnel who made the intervention or the call is reported or only authorized personnel.
In the past, health personnel had pagers called pagers with them for emergency calls. They also carried a cordless telephone for the need to talk. With current technologies, it is possible to have support for both talking and receiving messages using only IP DECT or WiFi phones. Thanks to the integration between the nurse call system and the wireless communication system, when an emergency occurs, a message is sent to the DECT or WiFi phone about where the emergency occurred. The phone continues to warn until the health personnel hangs up on this call and it is reported whether the message has been received or not. Nurse call systems can be used not only in health institutions, but also in nursing homes, kindergartens and even hotels.
There are different types of nurse call systems such as analog and IP according to the technology used, and wired or wireless according to the communication method. Wireless systems are expected to be the fastest growing segment in the market due to the advantages and flexibility they provide.
